Volvo Car UK has been crowned Manufacturer of the Year by AM magazine in its 2018 awards, continuing the brand's winning start to the year.

The prominent automotive sector trade magazine awarded the title to Volvo on the basis of its transformed model range and the cars' suitability to customers in the areas of practicality, cost, style and environmental performance. The company's work to support the efforts of its retail network to employ the right people also curried the judges' favour.

Tim Rose, AM Editor and judging panel member, said: 'Volvo's latest products are absolute premium contenders, and its technology advances in hybrid powertrains and autonomous driving systems are further signs that it is a brand rising high.'

The Volvo XC60, meanwhile, won New Car of the Year, beating stiff competition from across all sectors of the industry. The car attracted praise from numerous quarters for its combination of comfort, safety and technology.

Rose said: 'The original XC60 was a huge success for Volvo's dealers, and the latest one has moved the bar higher so must give them confidence that success will continue.'
