1963 Plymouth Valiant

The compact Plymouth Valiant received a major styling change for 1963, with the roofline becoming flatter and more conventional than in prior years. It received many new accessories and a new spring-staged choke. The Valiant nameplate was placed on the hood of all trim levels and body styles. In the back were new horizontal tail lamps that wrapped around the fender corners.

Bodystyles included a 2- and 4-door sedan and a station wagon on the V-100 series. Standard equipment included dual visors and horns, cigar lighter, turn signals, front door armrests, electric wipers, and blackwall tires. Power was from a 170 cubic-inch overhead valve Slant Six which had just over 100 horsepower. A three-speed manual transmission was also standard. A 225 CID aluminum version of the Slant Six was an early option but was later discontinued and replaced by a cast-iron version.

For buyers seeking more, they could purchase the V-200 version of the Valiant, which added special upholstery, Deluxe carpeting, and special trim. A convertible was a new body style. Station wagons had nameplates on the roof pillar.

The top-of-the-range Valiant was the Signet and was available as a convertible or hardtop coupe. Distinguishable features included Signet nameplates affixed to the front fender tips. Standard equipment included bucket-type front seats, back-up lights with appliques, and full wheel covers. The convertible top was manually operated and an optional vinyl roof became available on the Hardtop Coupe on December 1st of 1962.
