1963 BMW 700

In the post-War period, BMW faced several challenges re-building its car manufacturing industry; with determination and forward thinking, it quickly evolved. The BMW 700 was launched in the early 1960s as a successor to the 600. It was the company's first model built with a monocoque chassis and was initially available in both a two-door saloon and coupe versions with a convertible option added later. Power was from a rear-mounted, flat twin-cylinder engine displacing 697cc and breathing through a single Solex carburetor developing 30 horsepower. Improved brakes and rack and pinion steering gave the 700 excellent driving characteristics. Modifications and updates to the 700 resulted in variants such as the 700 Sport with twin carburetors and the Luxus riding on a long wheelbase.

Over the five years of production, a total of 188,211 examples were built.
