The 1963 Chevy Corvair was available as a Series 500, Deluxe Series 700, and the Monza Series 900. The base engine was a rear-mounted, air-cooled, horizontally opposed six-cylinder unit displacing 145 cubic inches and offering 80 horsepower. The Monza Spyder had a turbocharged six, which had 150 horsepower.
Series 700 6 Cyl Club CoupeThe base model was available as a club coupe which listed for nearly $2,000, and 16,680 were produced. They had a heater and defroster, electric windshield wipers, and foam seat cushions in the front. They had very few changes over the prior model year; a chrome strip could be found between the quad headlamps, running horizontally across the car, with the center section finished in black paint. The Deluxe model came as a sedan and a club coupe. The sedan proved to be more popular with 20,684 produced versus 12,378 examples of the club coupe. These deluxe models were distinguished from the base model by having an upper belt molding that traveled the length of the body from the middle of the front door forward, around the front end, and ending in the middle of the opposite door. They had a Corvair 700 nameplate positioned ahead of the front wheel opening. They had additional chrome moldings, nicer interior upholstery, color-keyed vinyl rubber floor mats, automatic dome lamp switches, and dual horns. The final model in the lineup was the Monza Series, which was available as a sedan, club coupe, and convertible. The Club Coupe was very popular with 117,917 examples produced (an additional 11,827 club coupes were fitted with the Spyder Option). The Monza series had full-wheel covers, rocker panel moldings, unique identification based, bucket seats, back-up lights, deluxe steering wheel, glove box light, and a cigarette lighter. The Spyder option included a round 'turbocharged' emblem on the rear deck, a 120 mph speedometer, full instrumentation with a tachometer, a brushed metal dash insert panel, and the turbocharged flat-six engine.
