The 1978 Mazda RX-3SP was available in coupe form and had a base price of over $4,100. The base engine was a Wankel unit that featured two coaxial three-lobe rotors, displaced 70 cubic inches, and offered nearly 100 horsepower. A five-speed manual gearbox was standard, with an automatic gearbox available in certain states. For 1978, Mazda sold over 75,300 vehicles in the United States.
