1939 Hudson Series 95 Country Club Eight Navigation
In 1938, the Hudson Motor Car Company retooled its model lines for greater efficiency and to better position the company for the improving economic conditions of the late 1930s. Unfortunately, this uptick was soon overshadowed by the onset of war in Europe.

Auction entries : 1For 1939, the Hudson vehicles were slightly updated and continued to use Bendix hydraulic brakes with a mechanical backup system in the event of an emergency. New for 1939 included the 'Auto-Poise Control' steering-column gear shifter, which allowed the front passenger compartment to be free from the old-style floor shifter and emergency brake lever. Additional safety was achieved with the new front-hinged, dash-lock 'alligator' safety hood. This system kept the hood shut even at high speeds, and it reduced the risk of theft when the car was parked and locked. The 1939 Hudsons received added comfort and convenience. New 'Airfoam' seat cushions helped enhance the ride comfort for the occupants. Betty Thatcher Oros was also hired in 1939 as the first female automotive designer in America. She would retain this post through 1941 until civilian automobile production was abandoned to support wartime production.
