1950 Cadillac Series 60 Special Fleetwood Navigation
The Cadillac Sixty Special has a history that dates back to 1938 when it was used on a Harley Earl / Bill Mitchell-designed extended wheelbase derivation of the Series 60. A completely new Sixty Special was introduced in 1942 and rested on a 7-inch longer wheelbase platform than the prior 1941 model. This version remained in production until 1948 when nearly every Cadillac model was redesigned. It was given all-new sheet metal yet rested on the same 133-inch wheelbase
The fourth generation of the Sixty Special was introduced in 1950 and continued through 1953. It had a shorter 130-inch wheelbase and came with a 331 cubic-inch overhead valve V8 engine (which had been introduced in 1949). The manual transmission used on prior versions was replaced with a four-speed HydraMatic automatic. The exterior styling was very similar to the less-expensive Series 62 models while the interior was more luxurious and well-appointed.
1950 was the first year that Cadillac sold over 100,000 vehicles in a single year. Of those, 13,755 were the Sixty Special.
