1973 Oldsmobile Toronado Navigation
The 1973 Oldsmobile Toronado wore styling that was introduced in 1971, the first major update since its introduction in 1966. In keeping with a trend seen throughout much of the industry, a greater focus was placed on luxury and fuel economy. New standard features on the 1971 Toronado included front disc brakes and the overall dimensions were larger than the previous models with the previous 119-inch wheelbase gaining three inches. A unique styling feature was the novel air induction system which did away with the traditional grille in favor of a 'bottom breather' setup, allowing airflow to enter from below the headlights. The Toronado would later adopt conventional styling after United States Federal bumper standards were implemented. For 1973, the Toronado continued its perch atop the Oldsmobile model lineup, powered by a large 455 cubic-inch V8 engine and resting atop a 122-inch wheelbase platform. The well-appointed vehicle came standard with power brakes with front discs, power steering, Turbo-Hydramatic transmission, bumper guards, dual exhaust, interior hood release, windshield radio antenna, molding package, cigarette lighter, ashtrays, electric clock, and armrests. The upholstery was cloth, vinyl or leather. The two-door Toronado coupe had a factory base price of $5,440 and the Brougham coupe listed for $5,600. A total of 28,193 examples of the coupe and 27,728 of the Brougham coupe were built in 1973.
