PEBBLE BEACH AWARD-WINNING COACHBUILT FERRARI LEADS IMPRESSIVE STABLE OF PRANCING HORSES CONSIGNED FOR BONHAMS QUAIL LODGE AUCTION
June 16, 2015 by Bonhams
Bonhams' renowned mid-August auction at Quail Lodge in Carmel, California, just added another star to its constellation of consignments: a 1951 Ferrari 212 Inter Cabriolet by Vignale. With a description that commands superlatives, this authentic, rare, gorgeous, fast and fun sports car is truly extraordinary. The first of only four models bodied by Vignale, the matching numbers convertible – chassis number 0159E – has its Red Book Certification from Ferrari Classiche, benefits from a comprehensive, correct and stunning expert restoration completed last year, and received second place honors at the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance behind the Best of Show-winning Ferrari 375MM. And not only is the Vignale cabriolet elegant and beautiful, but with its aluminum alloy coachwork and Colombo V-12 engine it is also very fast. With a history known from new, including being owned by renowned Swiss collector Charles Grenaud for over three decades, the car has been included in at least two published books as well as various magazines, is accompanied by documentation, tools and period photographs, and is eligible for all the world's great classic events. In short, a car of this pedigree, provenance and condition rarely comes to market and represents a tremendously unique opportunity. On top of that, Bonhams has consigned a further nine Ferraris to the sale. From 246s and 308s to 330s and 365s, the selection from the world's greatest sporting marque is broad, ranging – thus far – from the 1950s to the 1990s. Examples include the company's top selling luxury model of the time, a 365 GT 2+2 that was sold new by Bill Harrah to Bobbie Gentry, a brace of Dinos – a GT and GTS, a pair of 308s – a GTB and GTS, a highly sought after 365 GTB/4 Daytona Berlinetta, and a legendary F40, among others. The Bonhams Quail Lodge Auction will take place Friday, August 14th during the world- famous Monterey Peninsula / Pebble Beach Car Week. As the current world record holder for any car sold at auction, in addition to world auction records for Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, Austin-Healey, Bentley, Ferrari, Frazer-Nash, Invicta, Lagonda, Lotus, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz and Rolls-Royce, Bonhams is the go-to source for collectors' cars. Owners of important vehicles are encouraged to contact Bonhams posthaste as space is limited for what's one of the most important international motoring auctions of the year. www.bonhams.com/quail
