VOLVO SUPPORTS ENHANCED NHTSA 5-STAR RATINGS
December 9, 2015 by VolvoRockleigh, N.J. (Dec. 8 2015) Volvo Cars of North America (VCNA) supports changes proposed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to the New Car Assessment Program, which provides the 5-Star Safety Ratings on all new vehicles sold in the United States. The proposed enhancements would include crash avoidance systems into the overall rating along with a campaign to educate consumers about the value of crash rating information when purchasing a vehicle. 'Volvo Cars is committed to safety and supports NHTSA in providing more in-depth safety information for consumers,' said Lex Kerssemakers, President and CEO of Volvo Cars of North America, 'Collision avoidance systems are important in preventing crashes and injuries; including it in the official 5-Star Rating System will further push awareness around the importance of these systems.' Volvo's engineering, development and operating philosophy is focused on safety, improving the environment and reducing traffic congestion in major metropolitan areas. Known as Vision 2020, a key tenet is that no one should be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo by the year 2020. Progress toward this vision has resulted in world first safety technologies, creating an unparalleled safety benchmark for the automotive industry.
