Mk IX Jaguar Roars To The Front Of The Pack At Barons

The star of the show at Barons' Jaguar Heritage, Classic and Sports Cars sale at Kempton Park on Saturday 16th September was undoubtedly the stunning Jaguar Mk IX, which sold for £44,000 including buyer's premium. This was closely followed by a number of other Jaguars, with a total of eight big cats finding new homes on the day, including a 1969 E-type Series 2 2+2 coupe (£40,150) and a 1959 XK150 FHC (£35,860).

Amongst a pack of pristine Jaguars, a 1965 E-type S1 FHC stood in sharp contrast. In need of complete restoration, this exciting project sold for £15,950.

Among the non-Jaguars in the sale the 1948 Lanchester LD10 Drop Head by Abbott - one of just two examples ever built – sold for over top estimate, at £27,500, while a very attractive, one-owner 1985 Mercedes-Benz 280SL with just 33,000 miles on the clock achieved a strong £24,000.

Barons' Auction Manager Tim Gascoigne was in a buoyant mood after the sale, commenting: 'We hold a Jaguar Heritage sale annually. It always proves to be one of our most popular auctions, and this year was no different. We had just over 80 cars on offer - not only Jaguars - offering a varied and quality selection for our customers.

'My personal favourite was the 1963 VW Type 2 Split Screen Camper, which sold for £33,550 including commission. I'm not normally a huge camper fan, but this example, originally owned by the German Fire Brigade, was by far the best one that I've ever seen.

'We're now looking forward to our next sale on Saturday 28th October, which is back at Sandown Park.'
