1958 Buick Series 50 Super Navigation
Buick's model lineup included the entry-level Special, priced from $2,700 to $2,300 and powered by a 364 CID V8 rated at 250 horsepower. Both the Special Series 40 and the Century Series 60 had a 122-inch wheelbase. The Century was similar to the Special with a similar engine but with a higher 10.0:1 compression, a four-barrel carburetor (instead of the two on the Special), and delivered 300 horsepower at 4,600 RPM. The Buick Series 50 Super, the Series 75 Roadmaster, and the Series 700 Limited all shared a 127.5-inch wheelbase. The Series 50 had the least number of body styles - a hardtop coupe priced at $3,645 and a hardtop sedan priced at $3,800. The convertible coupe, available in 1957, was no longer offered. The four-door was more popular with 28,460 examples built compared to 13,928 of the two-door hardtop. The side trim was similar to the Series 40 and Series 60, but with 'Super' lettering on the rear fender flashes and on the deck lid. It used the same engine as the Series 60 Century backed by a Variable-Pitch Dynaflow transmission. Standard equipment included power steering, power brakes, courtesy lights, a fully carpeted floor, dual horns, an electric clock, full wheelcovers, and a safety-cushion instrument panel. 1958 was the final year of the Buick Super, first introduced in 1940.
