The Jaguar R1 Formula One car was used during the 2000 season and was the first Jaguar-badged car after Ford's purchased of the Stewart team the prior year. Power was from a Ford Cosworth V10 which was mated to a Jaguar 6-speed magnesium-cased semi-automatic gearbox.
Throughout the season, the R1 did not provide the anticipated results, though it did have a few exceptional moments. The car was reportedly hard to drive and it suffered from an unreliable gearbox.
The car was driven by Eddie Irving - the 1999 championship runner-up - Luciano Burti, and Johnny Herbert. Even with experienced drivers, the team was only able to secure 4 points which earned them a 9th in the World's Constructor Championship.By Daniel Vaughan | May 2011
