For 1960, the Ford Ranchero moved from the full-size Ford Fairlane platform into the compact Falcon series. The base engine was a 144 cubic-inch overhead-valve six-cylinder unit offering 90 horsepower and mated to a three-speed manual transmission. An optional Fordomatic was available.The 1960 Ranchero had a concave aluminum grille flanked by round headlights on either side. It had a large compound curved windshield, a sloping hood, a spare tire and wheel behind the seat, and a bright metal windshield and drip moldings. It had a unibody construction with bolt-on fenders, duo-servo hydraulic brakes, and an independent front suspension setup. Inside was a Lifeguard steering wheel, sun visors, ashtray, double-grip door locks, dome light, and foam rubber seats.
