Italian Pre-and Post-War Marvels to star in Scottsdale

December 19th, 2019 – Los Angeles – An astounding selection of collectors' automobiles has just been consigned to Bonhams' popular Scottsdale Auction. From two sensational vintage Italian sports-racers, to the Philip Reed Collection of pre-war cars all without reserve, to two of the world's ultimate supercars, the compilation is breathtaking.

From pre-war Italy is a tremendous rarity – the legendary 1932 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Figoni Cabriolet Décapotable. This potent and elegant convertible with one-off coachwork by Carrosserie Joseph Figoni is one of just seven bespoke road cars ever bodied on this model, of which only five survive. Better still, the 8C is regarded as one of the most important – and most desirable – collector cars ever built. Designed by engineering legend Vittorio Jano, the formidable 8C was driven to victory after victory by the likes of Tazio Nuvolari and Luigi Chinetti, among many others. Complimented by the sweeping lines of Figoni's coachwork, the combination of mechanical powerhouse and graceful design makes for a mesmerizing Alfa unlike any other. Beautifully restored, eligible for the world's most prestigious events, and offered for the first time in more than two decades, it represents a truly special opportunity. From post-war Italy is another cabriolet sportscar of renown – the 1951 Ferrari 212 Inter Vignale Cabriolet (chassis number 0159E). This Classiche-certified Prancing Horse is an exquisite and mighty open-top expression of the venerable 212. It's well documented, impressively restored, and is a Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance award winner. Exceptionally rare and exceedingly usable, this celebrated Ferrari is an iconic embodiment of mid-century automotive glamour and supremacy.

Also featured will be the Philip Reed Collection of southern California. Featuring 16 automobiles, most of which are pre-war American and European, the entire collection is to be offered with no reserve. Reed was well-known and respected in the collector car world, particularly as an active member, former president and board director of the Horseless Carriage Club of America, and his collection includes such Brass Era rarities at the 1901 Winton he bought from Gene Autry and the fascinating 1902 Boyer – the only one of its kind known to exist.

And, true to Bonhams' reputation for exemplary breadth and variety of collectors' cars, on offer will also be two ultimate supercars – a 2008 Koenigsegg CCX Coupe and 2008 Bugatti Veyron 16.4.
