CHEVROLET CAMARO – AN AMERICAN CLASSIC

For 34 years, the Chevrolet Camaro has stayed true to its heritage of 'Performance, American Style.' Since its introduction, it has maintained a position in Chevrolet's performance-oriented sporty car lineup with traditional rear-wheel drive and muscular pushrod V8 engine, second only to its big brother, the Chevrolet Corvette.

The 2001 Camaro is far more refined than its ancestors, especially the Z28. With horsepower increased from 305 to 310 and up from 320 to 325 on Z28 SS models, plus increases in torque

ratings, Z28 buyers will feel more raw power than before.

CAMARO MODEL LINEÚP

There are four Camaro models: Camaro Coupe & Convertible, and Z28 Coupe & Convertible, plus the SS Performance and Appearance option. The strength of the Camaro Convertibles is that they were designed and engineered at the beginning as convertibles and are built right on the assembly line in Ste. Therese, Quebec, Canada. Camaro Coupe models offer removable roof panels — another open-air option that is an exclusive in this segment (excluding other GM vehicles).

In addition, there are three option packages that transform the Camaro into something sportier yet, or make it more useful for other 'pursuits.'

• The Sport Appearance Package (Y3F) includes 16-inch aluminum wheels with P235/55R-16 blackwall Touring tires, specific front and rear fasciae, and a rear spoiler extension. The package may be ordered on any Camaro model, but on Z28s it does not include the wheels and tires because they are standard on the Z. This package is not available with the SS.

• The SS Performance/Appearance Package (WÚ8) adds even more 'beef' to an already muscular car. Available on Z28 Coupe or Convertible models, it includes added horsepower (325 vs. the Z28's 310), a forced-air composite hood, special SS badging, a unique rear spoiler, low-restriction/ dual-outlet exhaust with larger pipes, power steering cooler, High Performance Ride and Handling package and special SS 17-inch aluminum wheels with speed-rated Goodyear Eagle F1 P275/40ZR-17 tires. • The B4C Special Service Police Package, which includes several Z28 ingredients on a Camaro Coupe platform, is available only to law enforcement agencies, and its enhanced performance makes the 'long arm of the law' even longer.

CAMARO COMFORT AND CONVENIENCE


• Camaro Coupes and Convertibles include features such as the award-winning 3800 V6 engine with sequential fuel injection, a 5-speed manual transmission, power-assisted 4-wheel antilock disc brakes and rack-and-pinion power steering, a tilt-steering column, air conditioning, a center console with auxiliary power and storage room for cassettes and CDs, automatic exterior lamp control, cloth front buckets with 4-way manually adjustable driver's seat, fold-down rear seats and a Firm Ride and Handling suspension.

• Z28 Coupes and Z28 Convertibles get all of the above and more, including the Corvette-inspired LS1 V8 engine, increasing horsepower from 305 to 310 for 2001. It is available with either a

6-speed manual or 4-speed electronically-controlled automatic transmission, and a limited-slip axle is included in either case. Either transmission can be ordered as standard equipment. For more enthusiastic driving, the Performance Ride and Handling package is available and includes special Z28 aluminum wheels and P235/55R-16 blackwall Touring tires. More aggressive P245/50ZR-16 tires are available as upgrades.

Standard equipment on Convertibles also includes power windows and door locks, fog lamps and cruise control. Standard safety and security items include dual front air bags, battery run-down protection, a passive theft-deterrent system, engine oil life monitoring and daytime running lamps.

The only thing that overpowers Camaro's engine is the available 500-watt (peak) Monsoon sound system. This system is standard on all but the base Coupe and includes 8-speakers and an AM/FM stereo radio with cassette. An optional Monsoon premium sound system with CD player is available along with other sport and luxury amenities like power seats, leather seating surfaces and traction control.

NEW FOR 2001


In addition to the already-mentioned LS1 horsepower increase, every Camaro model includes retuned shocks to aid ride and handling and optimize the isolation of road noise and vibration.

Also new for 2001, Sunset Orange Metallic is added to Camaro's already exciting array of available colors.
