Mecum Closes 2020 with $14.7 Million Auction in Houston

442 Cars Sold in Three Days for 84% Sell-Through Rate

Mecum's classic and collector car auction held in Houston this past weekend resulted in $14.7 million in total overall sales. The event topped off a successful run of six such large-scale, live auctions held by the company in various major cities around the country over the past eight weeks; together, these events have facilitated the sale of more than 2,700 vehicles for a total of $75.5 million in overall sales and a sell-through rate of 83%. The event in Houston closed out the 2020 calendar year by contributing 442 of those vehicles to the total number sold, an amount that equated to an 84% sell-through rate over the three action-packed auction days, Dec. 3-5.

The Houston auction's top-10 selling vehicles featured everything from vintage foreign exotics to modern American muscle, with the top three seats claimed by vehicles celebrated for both form and function. Coming in at No. 1 was a 1941 Ford Custom Pickup (Lot S81) featuring a steel body and a Supercharged Coyote V-8 engine that achieved a $206,250 sale, followed by a 1990 Land Rover Defender 110 Custom (Lot S108) and a 2013 Ford E350 Sportsmobile (Lot S180), each of which demanded final sale prices of $176,000.

Other top-selling cars in Houston ranged from a 1934 Lincoln KA Convertible (Lot S143) that sold for $137,500 to a 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible (Lot S130.1) with just 42 miles and a Z51 package that achieved $115,500.
