Gooding & Company Achieves the Weekend's Highest Sales Rate, Amasses Over $76 Million at Its 2019 Pebble Beach AuctionsThe Ferrari California Spider stole the show, selling for $9,905,000,with an additional 17 cars selling above the $1 million mark

Pebble Beach, Calif. (August 18, 2019) – Gooding & Company, the official auction house of the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance®, realized $76,824,740 at the 16th annual Pebble Beach Auctions this weekend. During the two-day auction event, the company sold 108 of 140 lots, garnering a 77% sales rate, with an average price of $711,340 per car.

The action-packed weekend began on Friday evening with numerous notable sales. The 1975 Ferrari 312T achieved $6,000,000, the 1913 Isotta Fraschini Tipo IM sold for a world-record price of $2,645,000, the 1930 Duesenberg Model J Sport Berline generated $2,040,000, and the 1991 Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer realized $857,500. These cars and many others were brand new to the market and were skillfully delivered to their new homes. Without a doubt the star of Friday's auction was the highly publicized 1975 Ferrari 312T, once driven by the legendary Niki Lauda. The first 312T ever to be sold at auction was greeted with a standing ovation from a packed auction tent. When the bidding finished at $6,000,000, the camera flashes from a boisterous audience were reminiscent of the 312T's Grand Prix podium win. The marque also turned heads when the 1958 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider reached a final price of $9,905,000 to become the biggest sale of the weekend for Gooding & Company.

Saturday's auction built upon that momentum with a new world record set for the 1931 Studebaker Special Indy Car. A three-time Indy 500 entrant and winner of the 1931 Pikes Peak Hill Climb, the Special Indy Car had bidders battling to claim the prize. After an exciting back and forth, the car ultimately hammered at $1,105,000, receiving cheers and acclaim from everyone in attendance.

'We continue to achieve our goal of delivering the most exceptional cars to auction,' notes David Gooding, President and Founder of Gooding & Company. 'Our tireless efforts to bring only the highest quality cars to Pebble Beach is further represented by a remarkable weekend of sales and several new auction world records.'

The auction tent was at full capacity both days, and viewers from over 113 countries tuned in via Gooding & Company's live high-definition webcast to watch the energetic bidding masterfully directed by celebrated auctioneer Charlie Ross. Mr. Ross' charming bravura heightened the drama as paddles rose for exceptional lots from Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, and Mercedes-Benz. Among these masterpieces were the beautiful 1958 Ferrari 250 GT Tour de France which brought in $5,100,000, and the 1939 Alfa Romeo Tipo 256 Coupe which delivered a lengthy bidding war until it ultimately sold for $2,755,000. From ultra-rare prewar classics to modern day supercars, it is no surprise that Gooding & Company's Pebble Beach Auctions were once again the premier event of the 2019 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance®.
