RM Auctions hosted the Auburn Auction Parks 51st annual Labor Day event this past weekend (2 September – 5 September). Total sales across the four-day auction grossed more than $15.8 million with 97% of all lots sold. The Labor Day Weekend auctions drew great attendance and saw bidders from 46 states across the U.S. with 35% representing new clients.

RM Auctions has built an enviable and market-leading position as the premier auction house for private and single-owner collections. The 2021 Auburn Fall sale featured six individual collections, offered either entirely or largely without reserve.

Friday saw three single-owner collections with the much-anticipated Glen Hague Collection comprising of 68 American classic motor cars, 58 Cushman scooters, and more than 500 lots of automobilia including vintage signs, and car parts. Offered entirely without reserve, the cars crossed the block on Friday, and the Cushman scooters and automobilia went under the hammer across all four days of the sale. Bringing strong results, the entire collection secured $1,630,041 with the 1940 Ford DeLuxe Station Wagon leading the pack, selling for a final result of $61,600.

Owing its handsome design to legendary industrial stylist Alexis de Sakhnoffsky, the 1936 White Model 706 'Yellowstone National Park' Tour Bus smashed its pre-sale estimate and sold for a remarkable $550,000, making it the top-selling lot of the sale. Along with the Tour Bus, an additional three single-owner collections went under the hammer on Saturday and the second-highest selling lot was the 1964 Porsche 356 C Carrera 2 Coupe, offered from The King Collection. This rare and highly sought-after Porsche 356 was one of only 126 Carrera 2 Coupes built for 1964 and sold for an excellent final price of $368,500. Rounding out the top three sales was the 1956 Porsche 356 A 1600 Cabriolet, offered in 'barn find' condition and a wonderful basis for a full restoration, it secured a final price of $236,500, more than doubling its pre-sale estimate.

Additional highlights include a 1970 Plymouth Superbird, previously owned by NASCAR Hall of Famer Ray Evernham, which sold for $220,000; and offered from The Cayman Island Motor Museum Collection, a well-preserved 1957 Volkswagen 1200, hammered well beyond its expected pre-sale estimate and sold for a final $24,750. Also notable was The Michigan Collection, an amazing collection of 70 automobiles representing over 30 years of historic Michigan automotive history, which grossed $2,111,975.

Gord Duff, Global Head of Auctions, RM Sotheby's said: 'The Auburn Fall sale is a fantastic tradition in the auction calendar, and this marked the 51st running of the event. We welcomed a tremendous crowd and achieved some amazing results over the four days of the sale, and this year was particularly noteworthy for the number of single-owner collections we had on offer, representing an incredible cross-section of automobiles from across the decades and to suit all budgets. We are delighted to have achieved such an impressive sell-through.'
